This research was conducted to suggest some directions for desirable urban green space planning through establishing a new classification system by the conditions of green covered space, using of remote sensing method and geographic information systems conception. The whole range of Kwang-ju city was classified into forest, agricultural area, bare ground, water, etc on the basis of the conditions of green cover. Green covered space was analyzed through periodical comparisons with the size of the urbanized area, and its characteristics was inspected and identified by using Thematic Mapper Data(TM DATA). The result showed that the use of TM DATA was proved to be useful in inspecting the changes in two dimensional amount of wide range of green covered space. Based on the result of the study, more concrete inspection should be conducted further studies on the evaluative methods of user satisfaction and habitat conditions for small wildlife in relation to green space are needed in the future.
