In)security in the Pacific

2020
Security is a multidimensional complex concept, contested in scholarly discourse, policy and practice in relation to questions about who should be the focus of security, what are sources of security threat and insecurity. In this chapter, we review the concept of security in the literature to argue that there is a need to map security in the Pacific Islands societies in a way that emphasises the importance of context and interconnections. We also highlight the importance of examining security in the Pacific in relation to gender and organisational culture of security providers and partners.
