Method for making a magnet coil using a slit band-shaped conductor

2012
A magnet coil or a method of making a magnet coil, comprising: slitting a band-shaped conductor into first and second half bands 13a, 13b except at its ends 2, 3 where they remain connected and winding the first and second half bands 13a, 13b on to a common winding body 9. The method may include respective first and second intermediate coils 14, 15, alternately performing the following steps: (step 1) winding one or more windings of the first half band 13a from the first intermediate coil 14 onto a winding body 9 of the magnet coil and step 2 winding one or more windings of the second half band 13b from the second intermediate coil 15 onto the same winding body 9. At least two, or four, changes between steps 1 and 2 may be used. The intermediate coils 14, 15 may be of the same size as the common winding body 9 and helically wound simultaneously. Various coil twisting arrangements between the intermediate coils 14, 15 and the common winding body 9 may be used during the winding process. The coil and its method of manufacture provide a magnet coil suitable for generating strong magnetic fields.
