Electroceuticals for neural regenerative nanomedicine

2020
Abstract Electroceuticals are emerging as complementary or as an alternative to traditional interests in nanomedicine that mainly focus on exploiting nanomaterials for drug delivery. Although applicable to a variety of body systems and clinical indications, the use of multifaceted materials with nanoscale surface dimensions and the capacity to deliver electrical cues has the potential to revolutionize neural regenerative medicine. Here we present the opportunity for an electroceuticals approach to neural regenerative nanomedicine through a comprehensive assessment of the state-of-the-art and future directions. By doing so we hope not only to provide in-depth insight to applicable electromaterials, mechanisms of action, and stimulation platforms, but also to give an overview of their limitations and possibilities
