Study on Propagation Process and Signal Acquisition of Traveling Wave for HVDC Transmission Line

Traveling wave fault location is very important for high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines. The attenuation and distortion of traveling wave in HVDC transmission lines and secondary circuits will have non-ignorable negative impact on traveling wave fault location. In this paper, the attenuation and dispersion characteristics of traveling wave at different fault distance are simulated and analyzed. The further attenuation and distortion of traveling wave in the secondary circuit are studied by physical model. The problems of traveling wave reflection caused by the secondary cable and signal interference caused by strong electromagnetic interference are analyzed. Through the analysis of the whole process of traveling wave propagation and acquisition, the necessity of on-site acquisition of traveling wave signal for HVDC transmission line is proved. In this paper, the system scheme and key technology of on-site acquisition of traveling wave signal for HVDC line are given, and the technical feasibility of this scheme is stated.
