On the investigation of structural and biological properties of 45S5 bioglass and β-tricalcium phosphate nanostructured materials

2019
Bioglass is a well known bioactive material with osteoconductive and osteoinductive properties and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is one of the highly bioresorbable bioceramics, which stimulates the mineralogy of bone structure. Both the materials have their own significant individuality in the field of tissue engineering. Hence, in the current study, we aimed to investigate the biocompatibility and bioactivity of bioglass and β-TCP. Comparatively, bioglass showed improved bioactivity (in vitro mineralization) and metabolic activity with MG-63 cell line. On the other hand, β-TCP exhibits higher rate of erythrocyte (RBCs) compatibility in higher sample concentrations (15 mg and 20 mg/mL).Bioglass is a well known bioactive material with osteoconductive and osteoinductive properties and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) is one of the highly bioresorbable bioceramics, which stimulates the mineralogy of bone structure.
