SADDINGTON CUTTING SLIP REPAIR: RESEARCH INTO THE USE OF LIME STABILISED CLAY AS EMBANKMENT FILL. LIME STABILISATION '90. PAPERS PRESENTED AT THE SECOND BACMI TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM ON LIME STABILISATION, MARCH 1, 1990, PENNS HALL HOTEL, SUTTON COLDFIELD

The paper describes the method used to repair a slipped cutting slope in Upper Lias clay. A section of the slope adjacent to the canal, was repaired using lime stabilised clay. Placing of the stabilised clay was monitored and effective stress testing was conducted on samples taken from the slope over a 16 month period. Further tests are required to confirm trends identified but the results appear to show a substantial improvement in the effective stress parameters of the stabilised clay relative to the natural clay in both peak and residual strength. However, unlike those of the natural clay, the values of the peak strength parameters of the stabilised clay appear to be much more dependent upon the dry density and/or moisture content of the stabilised clay.(A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 829661.
