Renewable Integration: An Opinion from the European Perspective [In My View]

2018
The turning point was in 2016: for the first time, the installed capacity of renewable energy generation worldwide exceeded that of fossil fuel plants. The integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) from renewable energy sources (RESs) and advanced technological solutions related to power systems (e.g., storage, high-voltage dc connections, and smart meters) are among the key approaches needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and tackle climate change. However, there is a concern about the integration of RESs in today’s power systems due to potential stability and reliability issues that need to be overcome through appropriate solutions and countermeasures.
