Effects of different amount of As2O3 and TiO2 on the chemical, physical and electrical properties of the base material MnO2

2005
Abstract MnO 2 oxide systems containing different weight percent of TiO 2 and As 2 O 3 were prepared. A number of studies, i.e., Fourier Transform Infrared, X-ray powder diffraction, electrical conductivity and dielectric properties on these mixed oxide systems, were carried out. These investigations show that the doping amount of As 2 O 3 and TiO 2 influences structure, conductance, electrical and dielectric behavior of MnO 2 system. The optical investigations show that MnO 2 reacts with As 2 O 3 to form Mn 2 As 2 O 7 and Mn 2 O 3 . TiO 2 appears in the form of rutile phase. Dielectric constants e ′ and e ʺ of 5 wt.% As 2 O 3 -doped composite were calculated to be ∼30 and ∼38 at 13.5 kHz, respectively. The formation of Mn 2 As 2 O 7 , Mn 2 O 3 and the presence of TiO 2 rutile phase and the degree of polarization or charge displacement depending on frequency played an effective role in the magnitude of e ′, e ʺ and σ .
