BMW Seamless Intermodal Routing Service

In a first step towards a seamless intermodal routing service, BMW Group tested an initial version of an intermodal routing service already in 2010 and 2011. As part of the MINI E Berlin powered by Vattenfall project the so called ‘Mobility Assistant’ offered electrical MINI drivers a seamless intermodal routing service as an iPhone application. It assists in comfortably finding charging stations en route, available park and ride spaces, and eases the use of public transport by giving all required travel information to reach the final destination. BMW Mobility Assistant supported not only mobility in a sustainable way; it also addressed the willingness to change mobility behavior. The next step towards seamless multi-mobility will be demonstrated at the 19th ITS world congress 2012 in Vienna. The intermodal routing service showed at the congress is the first concept of a fully car-integrated intermodal routing service by the example of Vienna region in cooperation with AnachB.at. This technical paper gives an insight in how this innovative function supports the driver in his struggle to arrive at his final destination in time and back.
