Morphology-Controlled Synthesis of Nickel Nanostructures under Magnetic Fields

2009
A facile chemical reduction method was established to fabricate ultrafine Ni fibers with a diameter of about 250 nm using external magnetic field-assisted self-assembly under normal pressure. Magnetic hysteresis measurement revealed that the Ni fibers showed ferromagnetic behavior with a saturation magnetization of 8.94 emu g and a coercivity of 133.8 Oe at room temperature. Moreover, different alcohol-type solvents were selected to control the microstructures and morphologies of the nickel products. As a result, it is found that the morphologies of the Ni nanocrystallites are closely related to the types of the solvents and only the solvents with double hydroxyl groups colud be used for the preparation of the Ni fibers.
