Study on Pores Structure of Freeze-casting Formed Porous Ceramics from Water-based Slurry

2009
The pores structure of freeze-casting formed porous ceramics from water-based slurry was investigated. The results show that the pores were laminar in porous ceramics prepared by freeze-casting of water-based slurry. The pores diameter of green body was smaller under higher freezing rate of freeze-casting process. The morphology of pores was influenced by ceramic powders in water-based slurry, especially by particles in the range of tens nanometers. Normally, the size of ice crystals would be decreased with the addition of fine powders, but the particles in tens nanometers would promote the growth of ice crystals which resulted in the increase of pores diameter.
