Inheritance of stripe rust resistance in wheat cultivar Jubeljna II

2004
To determine the genetic basis of stripe rust resistance,Jubilejna II,a wheat culti-var used to differentiate races of Puccinia striiformis in China, was crossed with a stripe rustsusceptible cultivar Mingxian169 and the cultivars with genes for resistance to the disease.Seedlings of the parents and F_1,F_2,and BC_1 progeny were evaluated for resistance to Chinesepathotypes or races of P.striiformis.Results showed that Jubilejna II has two recessive genesfor resistance to race CY29,two dominant genes for resistance to race CY23 and CY31,andone dominant gene for resistance to pathotype Su-1.The genes that confer resistance to raceCY29 do not confer resistance to CY23,CY31 and Su-1,which are named as YrJul and Yr-Ju2,respectively.There is a common gene, which confers resistance to CY23,CY31 and Su-1,and this gene is allele or closely linked to the gene in Spaldings prolific that is named as Yr-Ju3.Another gene conferring resistance to CY23 is allele or closely linked to the gene in Kan-gyin 655 and is named as YrJu4.
