Three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiographic imaging and volumetry of giant left atrial myxomas.

2009
WO CASES IN WHICH real-time 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (RT-3D TEE) was able to accurately depict a giant atrial myxoma showing prolapse into the left ventricle with resultant ventricular inflow obstruction are reported. Volumetric calculation of these masses using 3D techniques was more accurate than traditional 2-dimensional approaches when compared with ex vivo volumetric measurements by water displacement. These cases show the efficacy and potential usefulness of RT-3D TEE in cardiac surgery. CASE REPORT
