Advanced on Pichia pastoris expression of antimicrobial peptides

2009
Antimicrobial peptides(AMPs) are amphiphilic, positively charged molecules that have emerged as novel antimicrobial agents. Many different kinds of AMPs have been identified from various organisms. AMPs have broad spectrum of antibacterial activities. Preparation of AMPs at a large scale is a significant challenge in order to develop commercial products. Limited resources of natural antimicrobial peptide and difficulties in extraction make antimicrobial peptide hard to achieve large-scale production;artificial synthesis of antimicrobial peptide is limited to research for its high cost and difficulty to industrialization. Pichia pastoris expression system is applicable to a wide range of biological antimicrobial peptide, and the level of expression can be increased by various strategies,so P. pastoris system has a good application prospects in antimicrobial peptide production. This paper focuses on the advances of P. pastoris expression.
