Dendrological analyses of artefacts and other remains

2000
When the “Man in the Ice” was discovered in September 1991 at the head of the Otztal, all attention was concentrated on the exposed corpse frozen into the ice. The unusual features of the discovery strongly suggested a corpse of someone who had perished relatively recently. The associated artefacts, therefore, attracted no attention and were first noticed during a more careful examination of the find site. These finds, then, enabled a provisional estimate of the age of the corpse, whereby it then became clear that this was the body of a prehistoric man, together with his entire equipment, something that in view of the remoteness of the site had not previously been taken into consideration.
