CarView Plus: A Social-Based Live Media Distribution Platform in Vehicular Networks

Regarding general driving services, drivers and vehicles on roads are isolated and self-secured without interaction with neighbor vehicles. The driving safety is secured by individual driver behavior or vehicle-built protection systems. This paper proposes a novel system, named CarView Plus, which enables social-based live media distribution for driving safety on roads. The CarView Plus platform integrates vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-infrastructure, and social-to-vehicle service contexts. This platform supports the CarViewSharing and CarViewCasting software functionalities for not only inter-vehicle communications but social-based live media distribution in vehicular network environments. Therefore, the CarView Plus platform can deliver instant road information and real-time media streams in regard to traffic accidents and situations. Drivers can recognize what happens in front of them and timely respond to various traffic situations before approaching to critical driving areas. We present the prototypical development according to the CarView Plus platform architecture and functionality specifications. The proof-of-concept software implementation is further shown with a simple, practical demonstration.
