Application of ferrocemnt[ferrocement] and polymeric materials for repair of corrosion damaged hyperboloid overhead water tank structure

2003
The paper presents the details of repair of a three-decade-old hyperboloid RCC overhead water tank of about 1,45,000 litres capacity. The distress in the tank was noticed in the form of localised corrosion of reinforcement. An in-situ ferrocement jacketing technique was adopted as a repair measure. The paper describes various steps including the polymeric chemicals involved in the repair scheme. The rehabilitated water tank regained the look, shape, size and colour of the original tank. The repair technique is considered highly successful since the tank is serving well without any signs of deterioration for more than seven years after repair.
