Effect of Haizhumingmu eye drops on cataract in rats

Objective:To investigate the effect of Haizhumingmu(HZMM) eye drops on cataract in rats.Methods: Cataract was induced by galactose in rats,and the levels of SP,SOD,GSH,GSH-Px and MDA in lenses were determined.Results:As compared with the control group,both the speed and the degree of cloudiness in lenses were significantly decreased by middle and high doses of HZMM eye drops(P0.05 and P0.01).The levels of SOD,GSH and GSH-Px in lenses were significantly increased by low,middle and high doses of HZMM eye drops(P0.05 and P0.01),the content of MDA in lenses was significantly decreased(P0.05 and P0.01),and the content of SP was not significantly affected in each group(P0.05).Conclusion:HZMM eye drops can delay and control the formation of the cataract by inhibition of oxidation of the lens,suggesting a protective effect on early cataract.
