Efectos de biochar en el desarrollo vegetativo de Theobroma cacao L

El objetivo de la investigacion fue medir los efectos del biochar en el desarrollo de plantas de cacao. El trabajo se realizo en una finca cultivada con el clon de cacao CCN51, la cual se dividio en tres parcelas de 5000 m2, a las que se asignaron dos tratamientos (T1=75 g de biochar + 75 g de gallinaza/por planta; T2=150 g de biochar + 150 g de gallinaza/por planta) y una parcela control (T0= 150 g de gallinaza/por planta). En cada tratamiento, se realizo dos aplicaciones con un intervalo de 6 semanas despues de la primera aplicacion. El biochar se obtuvo de resto de la cosecha de cacao en un horno de doble fondo a una temperatura aproximada de 350 °C por 2 horas. Se observo diferencias significativas en altura de planta y numero de brotes por rama, los valores mas altos fueron en T1 y T2. El diametro y peso de las mazorcas no indicaron significancia estadistica, pero si en el peso de las almendras con el mayor promedio en T1. Se pudo determinar el efecto positivo del biochar frente al testigo. Se recomienda acompanar las aplicaciones de biochar con otros abonos organicos como humus o yeso agricola para evitar la alcalinidad del suelo, por ser un factor que pudo limitar el efecto en T2 en el llenado de las mazorcas. Palabras clave: Enmienda edafica, materia organica del suelo, fertilidad del suelo.   ABSTRACT The aim of the research was to measure the effects of biochar on the development of cocoa plants. The work was carried out on a farm cultivated with cocoa clone CCN51, which was divided into three plots of 5000 m2, to which two treatments were assigned (T1=75 g of biochar + 75 g of poultry manure/plant; T2=150 g of biochar + 150 g of poultry manure/plant) and a control plot (T0= 150 g of poultry manure/plant). In each treatment, two applications were made at an interval of 6 weeks after the first application. The biochar was derived from the rest of the cocoa harvest in a double-bottom oven at a temperature of approximately 350 °C for 2 hours. Significant differences were observed in plant height and number of shoots per branch, with the highest values in T1 and T2. The diameter and weight of the ears did not show statistical significance, but the weight of the almonds was statistically significant, with the highest average in T1. It was possible to determine the positive effect of biochar compared to the control. It is recommended to combine biochar applications with other organic fertilizers such as humus or agricultural gypsum to avoid soil alkalinity, as this factor could have limited the effect in T2 on ear filling.
