The invention discloses shaping graphite for a cathode material of a lithium ion battery and a preparation method thereof. The technical problem to be solved is to provide a cathode material with high specific energy of a lithium ion power battery. The shaping graphite is natural graphite, graphite particles are spherical, near-spherical, ovate, potato-shaped and/or blocky, and the surfaces of the particles are provided with lithium carbonates. The preparation method comprises the steps of crushing, continuously grading and shaping, purifying and performing surface treatment. Preparation equipment consists of a low-speed crusher, a cyclone material collector and a high-speed crusher which are connected through a high-pressure feeding pipeline. Compared with the prior art, the shaping graphite has the stable reversible capacity of over 350mAh.g and the first cycle coulombic efficiency of over 88 percent. The preparation method has the characteristics that: the method is easy to operate, the production process is full-automatic, work efficiency is high, dust in a workshop is avoided, the labor intensity of workers is low, noise in the workshop is reduced, energy is saved and consumption is low; and the preparation period is shortened, product yield is improved and cost is reduced.
