Composite Bonds Assessment Using EMI Technique

2013
The research was focused on fibre reinforced polymer material. Its application has been increasing in some branches of industry. They are used for wind turbine blades or structural elements of new aircrafts. Moreover, there is an increasing trend to replace riveting of CFRP elements by joints using adhesive bonding. The crucial issue is to assess this bond quality. The performance of adhesive bonds depends on the physicochemical properties of the adhered surfaces. The weak bond can be caused by surface contamination of the adherend surfaces. The contamination leading to weak bonds may have various origin and be caused by moisture, release agent, hydraulic fluid, fuel, poor curing of adhesive and so on. In this research two different causes of possible weak bonds were selected for the investigation: 1. Weak bond due to release agent contamination, 2. Weak bond due to moisture contamination.
