Efficacy study on intubating conditions at two different time intervals following rocuronium priming dose in major surgeries: A quasi randomized controlled study

2014
Aims and Objectives: To compare the effects of two different priming intervals with the standard intubating dose of rocuronium on the onset time and intubation conditions.Material and Methods: 40 patients were randomly assigned to two groups. Both the Groups were premedicated in usual manner. All the patients were induced with Thiopentone (5-7 mg/kg) after 2 minutes of priming dose (0.06 mg/kg) in Group R2 and after 3 minutes of priming dose (0.06 mg/ kg) in Group R3, till the loss of eye reflexes and then received intubating dose of injection Rocuronium (0.54 mg/kg).IPPR was given with 100% O2 on bag and mask by circuit, intubated with direct laryngoscopy and maintained with O2, N2O, isoflurane and Atracurium/Vecuronium. Patients were reversed and extubated with full recovery.Result and Summary: Clinically acceptable intubation conditions were obtained in all patients. 3 mins priming interval provides better and faster intubating conditions in Rocuronium as compared to 2 mins.Conclusion:3 min priming interval with rocuronium is better than 2 mins in terms of time of intubation and intubating conditions.
