Pressure effects on the orbital ordered state of RVO3(R=Y,Tb)

Abstract Pressure effects on the orbital ordered state in YVO 3 have been studied by using the low-temperature and high-pressure X-ray scattering technique. The pressure–temperature phase diagram for the orbital state was determined through the crystal structure. By applying pressure the C -type orbital ordering ( C -OO) is stabilized as compared with the G -type orbital ordering ( G -OO). It was also found that the ground state in TbVO 3 changes from the G -OO into the C -OO above ∼ 2 GPa , in common with YVO 3 .
