Effect of yttrium phosphate on irradiation of methyl vinyl silicone rubber

Abstract Nanoscale Yttrium phosphate (YPO 4 ) particles was prepared by hydrothermal method, and was used as anti-radiation additive for methyl vinyl silicone rubber (MVQ rubber). The mechanical properties and crosslink density of YPO 4 /MVQ rubber nanocomposites before and after irradiated by γ-rays were determined. The irradiation protection mechanism of YPO 4 was discussed using the fluorescence spectra. The results showed that YPO 4 could improve the irradiation-resistant properties of silicone rubber.
