Expressões da avicultura familiar caipira em município da Zona da Mata de Minas Gerais Expressions of the countrified familiar aviculture in the municipality of Zona da Mata

This study aimed to analyze the system of creation of free-range chickens practiced in family farming properties of the Divino-MG municipality whose families are co- protagonists in an extension project developed by the Federal University of Vicosa. Ten interviews were conducted using semi-structured script to systematize the experiences of families considering aspects related to nutrition and health management and facilities for the animals. The results demonstrate that the creation of hens is well integrated with other productive activities in the properties, especially with regard to nutrient/food cycling. The traditional model production contributes to food security and sovereignty of the families, besides highlighting the role and participation of women in production and household economy.
