Chemical study of Enantia Policarpa English and Diels an annoonacea of the Ivory Coast

1977
Enantia Polycarpa a plant of the family Annonaceae indigenous of North West Africa is much used in traditional Ivory Coast medicine to cure wounds leprosy and several opththalmic diseases. It is known to contain alkaloids in the bark of the trunk; to further investigate this matter the authors isolated all components in the bark and in the leaves of the plant. They were able to isolate 8 nonquaternary alkaloids in the bark and no less than 10 quaternary and nonquaternary alkaloids in the leaves. With the exception of 2 the alkaloids found in the bark were different from those found in the leaves.
