MACROCELL STEEL CORROSION CAUSED BY PATCH REPAIR

1997
Macrocell corrosion of steel in reinforced concrete repair occurs due to the physical, chemical and electrochemical dissimilarities between the existing concrete substrate and the patching material that covers the reinforcing steel bars. This paper describes the electrochemical principles, mechanisms and consequences of electrochemical incompatibility in reinforced concrete patch repair. Guidelines for patch repair designed to reduce the electrochemical incompatibility and to ensure durability are suggested. For the covering abstract see ITRD E111699.
