A Nonuniform Quantization ofHoughSpacefortheDetection ofStraight Line Segments

Design andimplementation ofanaccurate straight line detection approach forimages isakeyissue in pervasive computing environments. Houghtransform (HT)hasbeenaccepted asaprimary one.Butthe quantization ofHoughspace isakeyfactor influencing boththeaccuracy andefficiency ofHT algorithms. Instead ofquantizing Houghspaceuniformly, this paperproposes a HT algorithm withnonuniform quantization ofHoughspace, namely NUHT,which stemsfroma closeinvestigation intotheangle dependency oftheminimum distance andangle spacing between adjacent line segments. Experimental results showthat thenonuniform quantization ofHoughspace improves theaccuracy ofstraight linesegments detection substantially with noefficiency decreasing.
