The Design and Simulation of a Compact Vivaldi Antenna for UWB Applications

A miniaturized Vivaldi is presented in this paper. A novel size-reduced balun is adopted; resistors are loaded at the end of radiation structure; additional comb slots are used at the edge of the antenna. The dimension of the proposed antenna is 68. $\mathbf{5\mathbf{mm}(\mathbf{height})\times 74\mathbf{mm}} \qquad (\mathbf{width})\times \mathbf{0.508mm}(\mathbf{thickness})$. The simulation shows that the bandwidth covers the band from 0.8GHz to 18GHz $(\mathbf{return \ loss < -10dB}$), while the realized gain varies from −3.4dBi to 8dBi. Therefore, the proposed compact antenna can be applied to the size-restricted platforms.
