Abstract Vibratory perception thresholds (VPTs) and thermal discrimination thresholds (TDTs), reflecting large nerve fiber function and small nerve fiber function, respectively, were determined in 20 diabetics with painful sensory polyneuropathy and in 20 diabetics without neuropathic symptoms.
