Incidence of fetal macrosomia and its clinical prognosis since the implementation of the second-child policy

Since the implementation of the second-child policy, the number of high-risk pregnant women with advanced diseases such as diabetes has increased, and the incidence of fetal macrosomia. Fetal macrosomia has adverse effects on mothers and children. The adverse effects on the mothers mainly include the increase of cesarean section, birth canal injury, weak uterine contraction, postpartum hemorrhage, etc. The impacts on the ones with fetal macrosomia mainly include the increase of shoulder dystocia, birth injury, neonatal asphyxia, abnormal fetal birth, and other adverse prognosis, as well as the increase of their long-term obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. Therefore, the study of fetal macrosomia has been very important since the implementation of the second-child policy. This article reviews its incidence and clinical prognosis.
