Lung destruction after cis-platinum radiosensitisation

The augmented effect of radiation with administration of cis-platinum [cis diamminedichloroplatinum(11)] is sufficiently promising to warrant further trials but toxicity has been a drawback. A 41-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of a T3N2M0 poorly differentiated squamous cell tumour centrally located in the left upper lobe bronchus of the lung (Fig. 1). A minimal infiltrate in the anterior segment of the left upper lobe was evident on a CT scan performed as part of a staging procedure.
