Stationary Drift-Rossby Vortices of Elliptic Boundary in a Background Shear Flow

1996
The Charney-Hasegawa-Mima equation is a two-dimensional nonlinear equation describ- ing geostrophic Rossby flow and plasma drift flow. An analytic solution of the equation is given which represents a stationary vortex of an elliptic boundary in a background shear flow. The solu- tion is obtained by assuming a suitable form for the arbitrary function in the stationary equation.
