Fluorescence quenching of ultrathin MePTCDI films by inorganic substrates

Abstract Ultrathin films of MePTCDI (mono/multilayers with thickness d = 5–250 A ), UHV-deposited on He-cooled Ag(111) substrate, are studied in situ by ps time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. Quenching in the fluorescence transients by three orders of magnitude is observed. The averaged decay times are in excellent agreement with a semiclassical image dipole theory (CPS) (R.R. Chance et al. Adv. Chem. Phys. 37 (1978) 1).
