INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY | Sample Presentation

2013
Mid-infrared spectroscopy is a very important and widely used sample characterisation and analytical technique, whether the sample is in the form of a gas, a liquid, paste-like, or solid. The technique is used extensively in applications involving qualitative analysis, providing either functional group or structural information about a sample and its composition or a fingerprint spectrum (identification) of a material. This article covers the preparation and presentation methods, both traditional and many of the more recently developed and practiced, used in sample analyses by mid-infrared spectroscopy. It covers transmission, reflection (both internal and external), photoacoustic, and emission sampling methods.
