Skill Building: Assessing the Evidence

Programs to help persons with serious mental illness to strengthen social, cognitive, and coping skills take many forms and can be difficult to compare. In fact, more than 100 randomized controlled trials have examined the effectiveness of these popular programs. This literature review found strong evidence of the effectiveness of skill building services that focus on social and cognitive deficits, especially if these interventions are delivered through integrated approaches.
