Nonsurgical Treatment of Chronic Subdural Hematoma

2021
Surgical treatment is still considered the gold standard for symptomatic CSDH. Surgical intervention is limited by contraindications, the old age of patients, preexisting comorbidities and can also have a high risk of recurrence. Conservative treatment may be highly valuable in some situations. Surgery is effective for removing a CSDH and reducing the associated neurological deficits. However, based on pathophysiologic mechanisms, animal experiments, and clinical studies, some drugs are worth investigating for the treatment of CSDH and are demonstrating promising results in well selected patients.
