EBM COMMENTARY IS HIV SCREENING IN THE GENERAL POPULATION COST EFFECTIVE

Ms RK, a 24 year old Muslim female clerk, presented to theHealth Clinic for a medical check up. She was getting marriedand asked for pre-marital screening. As a Muslim, she neededto undergo Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) screeningbefore registering her marriage. Pre-testing counsellingrevealed no risk factor for HIV infection. Her HIV test wasnegative (using the rapid test SD Bioline HIV-1/2 3.0). TheHIV test of her fiance (done elsewhere) was also negative.
