Tribological performances of textured surfaces prepared by electrodeposition method

2017
ABSTRACTSurface texturing has become an increasingly prevalent approach to improve tribological properties of materials. In this work, textured surfaces, fabricated by means of electrodeposition, were studied by measuring the tribological properties. An improved method relying on material ratio curve was used to obtain more accurate wear volumes for the textured surfaces. The results showed that the bumps are distributed on the surfaces in a random array. Compared with the untextured surface, textured surfaces show lower friction and significantly improved wear resistance. The troughs around the bumps act as pockets for collecting the abrasive particles, which minimise the friction and wear of surfaces.
