Effect of Oligosaccharides on Performance of Weaning Piglets

2004
15 litters Duroc × Landrace × Harbin-white piglets with similar age were allocated to 5 groups and separately treated as control, fructo-oligosaccharides, isomalto-oligosaccharides, manno-oligosacchar-ides and probiotics groups. Oligosaccharides added as 1.0 g/kg feed and probiotics were offered as 3 × 1014/piglet between 7 days before weaning and 14 days after weaning. The results showed that bodyweight gain increased 13.7% ( P = 0. 242), 3. 1 % ( P = 0. 768), 18. 8% ( P = 0.099) and 32.6%(P = 0.004)respectively under fructo-oligosaccharides, isomalto-oligosaccharides, manno-oligosaccharides and probiotics treatments. There was no improvement on feed efficiency except in manno-oligosaccharides treatment. Diarrhea ratio decreased by 28.8 % under manno-oligosaccharides treatment and under other treatments the coming time of diarrhea was delayed. The comprehensive effects on improving weaning piglets' performance were probiotics manno-oligosaccharides fructo-oligosaccharides isomalto-oligosaccharides .
