Effect of Inertia on the Performance of Radial Face Seals

1980
The performance capability of Radial face seals has been expressed in terms of the load carrying capacity. The analysis has been carried out to investigate the influence of the inertia on the performance of the face seal operating under incompressible and compressible fluid environments. It has been established that neglecting inertia effects would lead to a detrimental overestimation of the sealing capability of a face seal which in turn results in a wrong selection of the seal.
