Sidelobe Level Suppression of Nulling Synthesis With Wide-beam Array Antenna
2021
The paper focuses on the sidelobe level (SLL) suppression problem with a desired wide nulling via a wide-beam array antenna. To deal with this problem, the existing methods synthesize the wide nulling based on the beam pattern optimization. However, in real applications, the array power gain is a more concerned factor than the beam pattern. Hence, differently, the paper tries to solve the SLL suppression problem by optimizing the array power gain. The formulated synthesis problem based on power gain optimization is non-convex. To simplify the problem-solving, the original problem is converted to a convex on by approximating the complex-valued constraint with real-valued constraint, as a result, it can be solved with existing tools. Both the isotropic element pattern (IEP) and the active element pattern (AEP) are used to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results indicates that the proposed algorithm can further suppress the SLL about 3 dB to 8 dB while keeps the same power gain and obtains the desired nulling.
