The family is affected by social, cultural, economic, and political factors, which change its configuration and dy- namics. Social and economic inequality accounts for vulnerable conditions many families face and new ways of understanding that social group are required. For analysis of that core, this study is based on the Social Representations Theory framework. It aims at analyzing the scientific production on social representations of the family in vulnerable contexts. Central elements in those social representations by several groups point to the ideal family model, poverty/unemployment and fragile family relationships, associated to new family configurations, poor living conditions, family violence, impairment of bio psychosocial development, moral and cultural values. Conclusions show that representations of family in vulnerable conditions contain both elements of hegemonic representations and elements of reality, signaling a change in those representations, which call
