Efficient Activation of Aromatic C—H Bonds for Fused Polyaromatic Hydrocarbon Construction.

A variety of cyclopenta-fused naphthalene and phenanthrene derivatives (25 examples) are obtained by the palladium-catalyzed reaction of 1,7-diaryl-1,6-diynes with aryl halides through C—C coupling and C—H bond activation of the incorporated aryl group.
