The small particle limit for electromagnetic separation

1994
A single rising linear ramp is used as a theoretical representation of the profile of the magnetic field at the boundary of a single boundary eddy-current separator. The theory for small conducting particles moving through such a field is developed so that the particle trajectories through the separation zone can be determined. Using the trajectories, which in this case are not dependent upon particle shape, the recovery of conductors at various fields is predicted and the predictions are shown to compare well with experiment. The theory is then used to explore the small particle limit of this type of electromagnetic separation. >
