Las caracteristicas de esta especie (ciclo corto, muchas generaciones al ano, alta tasa de fecundidad), ayudaron a que haya generado resistencia a muchos insecticidas quimicos, tanto puros como en mezclas, incluido biologicos como el Bacillus thuringiensis. A pesar de su importancia y de ser muy estudiada en el exterior, en Argentina se ha realizado poca investigacion.
