Recent progress in chemical gas sensors based on organic thin film transistors

2020
Chemical gas sensors have important applications in the fields of environmental supervision, chemical pharmaceuticals, disease diagnosis and so on. With the rapid developments of organic materials and device fabrication methods, organic thin film transistor (OTFT) based gas sensors have obtained significant progress and achieved excellent sensing performances. This review highlights recent progress in OTFT based gas sensors in the past several years, including the advances in typical sensing materials, interfacial engineering, microstructure regulation. Furthermore, other development in gas sensors such as new materials application and integrating sensor arrays are also discussed in detail. This review aims at providing a comprehensive and fundamental understanding of OTFT based gas sensors, in the terms of sensing materials selection, functional thin films formation, the influence of interfacial properties and gas sensing mechanisms. And it is hoped to contributed to the fabrication of high-performance gas sensors and the development of related industries.
