Study on Toughening Effect of Polystyrene Doped with Holimium Alkoxides

Polystyrene containing holimium was prepared by bulk polymerization of styrene with four kinds of Ho alkoxides compound as doping agents. X-ray electronic spectra showed that there was coordination interaction between Ho ion and benezene ring in the doped PS. The toughening mechanism of the doped PS was discussed by means of SEM and DMTA measurements and the effect of alkoxyl groups with various chain length on the toughening effect of PS was included. The impact strength data indicated that the impact strength of doped PS was improved obviously. Therefore, holimium alkoxides had obvious toughening effect on PS.
