Depresyon Ve Parkinson Hastalığı

1994
DEPRESSION AND PARKINSON'S DISEASE t/ In spite of the fact that dramatic strides have been made recently in understanding the pathophysiology and treatment of Parkinson's disease, its many aspects, particularly be-havioral manifestations, still remain poorly understood. Depression is the most frequently seen neuropsychiatric disturbance among the patients with Parkinson's disease. Possible explanations for this co-existence may be: 1. The medications used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease may cause depression as an adverse effect, 2. Depression may be a reaction to being a Parkinson's disease patient, or 3. The reason(s) for Parkinson's disease may also be responsible for the development of depression. The findings suggest the exis¬tence of two forms of Parkinson's disease: The first one is characterized by depression, younger age of onset, rigidity and bradykinesia and the latter is associated with greater tremor and older age of onset. Whatever the reason, depression, once recognized, should be treated.
